How to solve the poetry puzzle?
A poem that doubles as a long cryptic clue. A cryptic crossword masquerading as a poem.
Some clues are mildly cryptic. Some are devilishly poetic. For newbies to cryptic crosswords, see this guide for how to solve them.
The key thing to remember is: a clue leading to the whole answer can be found at the START or END of the poem.

Chant for all those suffering:
the red lost five hundred
in that place. Is a snout
filled with old copper
justifiable? No. Not against
depraved cruelty that won’t die,
as it shuffles, achingly,
into usable mania.
